Step into one of the most remote corners of Kenya, Africa.  Kargi village is located in Marsabit County, 30 miles south of Ethiopia in the northern desert of Kenya. Here, the ancient Rohingya tribe live in minyattas (small huts, usually shared by 5-10 people).  They are a resilient people in this harsh environment, a nomadic community, shepherding their goats, camels and donkeys.

You will arrive by a small plane from Nairobi and land onto a dirt airstrip near the MOHI school in Kargi.  There, you will be greeted by the community and students from the school with smiles, song and dance.  Eastside has had a long tradition of building and supporting of this school that provides social support, daily meals, access to health care and education for over 700 learners.

How you will serve:
-Provide essential medical care by joining a team of medical professionals.  This underserved community needs support with nutritional, prenatal, natal and chronic medical conditions.
-Work side by side with MOHI Medical professionals in the MOHI Kargi community clinic.  We will learn and educate one another to support the current needs and prepare for the future!
-Travel to remote minyatta communities with the newly acquired medical response vehicle.
-Bring encouragement, dignity and hope to families by your presence and love. These families often feel forgotten and alone in their struggles.

Accommodations and Meals: Stay in small rooms with roommates and a private, rudimentary bathroom.  Meals are simple, nourishing dishes with rice, vegetables, protein (goat or chicken) and flat bread.  Water is bottled and at a premium in this region.

Meet Your Sponsored Child:  If you already sponsor a child(ren) in Kenya, you will have an opportunity to meet and see firsthand the impact your sponsorship makes!  If you haven’t sponsored a child yet, there will be opportunities to make this meaningful connection
