Mathare, Kenya Team

With over one million people living in small tin shanties, Mathare Valley is one of the most populated slums in the world. For over 20 years now, we have partnered with Missions of Hope to bring hope to those who call this slum home. Missions of Hope has established child sponsorship and schools that provide education, healthy meals, medical care, spiritual direction and more for more than 30,000 children across Kenya. Come with us as we work in the slums to renovate shantis with new beds, bedding, furniture, lighting and kitchen supplies. Serve food with the recipients of the renovations as well as the neighboring families. We'll assist the Special Needs team with the Special Olympics event. If you are a child sponsor you will get to spend a full day with your child making memories that will last a lifetime. Head out to Joska to visit 2,000 older MOHI kids that will soon be graduating and entering the workforce. We'll work side by side with our partners to make a big impact. Your African journey will end with an incredible two-day safari in the Masai Mara/Serengeti plains. This mission trip is not just about what we can give, but about experiencing the heart of God for the poor and broken. You will return forever changed. Cost of the Opportunity is $2,800 + Optional Excursion $1,200. Total cost $4,000 (if you choose to do the optional Excursion).

This trip will likely contain mostly unpaved, very uneven/hilly terrain, lots of walking and some heavy lifting. Rarely comfortable climate, sometimes hot or cold, probably no A/C. Most of the following conditions–uncertainty, odd schedules, emotional stress, long or difficult travel days, culture shock, language barrier, jet lag, uncomfortable accommodations, unfamiliar food. Not recommended for those with serious health conditions (including pregnancy).
